The Studio

Z-A is a New York based studio for architectural innovation, which is dedicated to exposing the unexpected in the mundane.

Z-A explores materials and structures that can adjust and respond to the changing needs, uses and identities of a project.

Z-A has gained national and international visibility through numerous awards, publications and exhibitions such as The Venice Biennale, The New York Times, CNN, Fox TV, Channel 13, Time Magazine, New York Magazine, Dezeen, Huffington Post, Fast Company, Architectural Record, Frame.

Z-A believes that a sustainable project is first and foremost a project that can live longer. A flexible design approach equips the project with the ability to stay relevant over time.

Z-A’s designs are a deliberate move away from stylistic or formal uniformity, expressing a genuine interest in the mundane, the found or given condition, which is clearly different from one project to the other. Moreover it is meant to display that starting with the obvious, doesn’t lead to an obvious result.

Guy Zucker is the principle and founder of Z-A. In addition to running his practice, he has taught Graduate Architecture Studio at the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia Graduate School of Architecture and at Parsons Graduate School of Design. Mr. Zucker holds a Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University, and a Bachelor of Architecture from the Technion Institute of Technology.
